Other Information
Did a research year out between third and fourth year in orthopaedics. Few publications, one first author, none in radiology. Published multiple case reports for radiology. Ranked in highest category in terms of clinical performance at my school (this is very important!). Decent ECs in volunteering, admissions, etc. Pleasant personality, sincere, strong interviewer (sounds pretentious but these factors set me apart). Also as you can probably tell had a strong bias to match NYC for personal reasons.

Strong faculty who are resident advocates. Location if you love the outdoors this place is heaven. Good facilities, beautiful hospital. Residents seemed genuinely happy to be here. Strong lectures by faculty. Good IR department.

Location if you must be in a large city. Very homogenous patient population.

New Jersey
  Atlantic (Morristown):
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Very meh. Introduction by eccentric faculty member. Then brief interviews with Chair and Program Director. After this go on tour of the facilities. Day ends after after afternoon lectures and brief question/answer session with residents.
- Program Advantages:
Location is close to NYC, so for those who must be in the area this is a plus. Beautiful hospital and surrounding areas, good for families.
- Program Disadvantages:
Area is extremely expensive. Residents were a little snippy. Morristown had an incident a few years ago in which basically a whole class of residents left the program. When asked about this the residents got very defensive and insulting.
  UMDNJ-New Jersey:
- Applied
  UMDNJ-RWJ:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Typical interview day with introduction by PD followed by 4 interviews with faculty. Have lunch with residents followed by quick tour.
- Program Advantages:
University program near NYC area. Faculty seem nice and stress that they want applicants who want to be there and are realistic about who they get.
- Program Disadvantages:
Residents did not seem too enthusiastic about program. Most residents come from UMDNJ system. Not much research for a uni program. - Not much in terms of research. From what we were told there are 'opportunities' to do research, but only one resident is

New York
  Albert Einstein COM:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Sit in morning conference, then have interviews with PD, assistant PD, and faculty member. While waiting for interview residents come in to talk about program.
- Program Advantages:
Phenomenal teaching. This is the flagship program of the Einstein system and is one of the best training programs in NYC. Large program at 9 residents/year. Great group of residents who really get along. Strong research. NYC!!
- Program Disadvantages:
Bronx location for those dying to be in Manhattan. Looking at the resident roster seems to be filled with many Einstein students.
  Albert Einstein COM (Jacobi):
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Sit in resident room and talk to 1-2 residents, then all meet with the Chair. Brief interviews with Chair and faculty followed by lunch with residents and noon conference.
- Program Advantages:
Very friendly faculty with good teaching. Einstein name (only Monte and Jacobi are considered AECOM programs)
- Program Disadvantages:
This is Einstein in title only. It may have been great years ago but now lives in the shadow of Montefiore. Facilities are kind of creepy and old. Location of radiology department seemed to be in an abandoned part of the hospital. Residents were somewhat
Albert Einstein COM at Beth Israel Med Ctr:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Attend morning conference, followed by brief introduction to program by chief residents. Then have faculty interviews. Day ends after tour of hospital.
- Program Advantages:
LOCATION!!! New chairman makes education a priority, and the teaching at BI is excellent. Truly one of the best community programs in NYC. Strong research opportunities for a community program.
- Program Disadvantages:
Einstein affiliate, but a community program. Facilities are old. Right near NYU so I don't know if program pathology suffers.
New York
  Bronx-Lebanon Hosp Ctr:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Horrific. Walk through pathology labs to get to radiology 'department.' Sit in a small conference room with 15 other applicants to wait for PD who is notorious for being late. 3 on 1 interview only 5 minutes long. Waste of time.
- Program Advantages:
NYC living for the truly desperate. Most residents live in Manhattan. Good moonlighting opportunities so that you can live far away from this hospital. Busy program, so you may be very well trained in terms of handling volume.
- Program Disadvantages:
Location. This place is in a really bad part of the Bronx. Only 1-2 faculty members for each section, so teaching is not going to be amazing. Resident happiness? Only met 2 residents during the whole day. Where are the rest hiding?
  Lenox Hill Hosp:

  Maimonides Med Ctr:

Brief introduction to the program by PD, followed by resident presentation. Interviews with 2-3 faculty. While waiting talk with residents and go on a tour. Interviews are 20-30 minutes and very relaxed.
- Program Advantages:
Amazing Manhattan location in the Upper East Side. Mount Sinai is a beautiful hospital and has a world-class reputation. Strong IR, one of the best in the Northeast. Great research opportunities and excellent teaching. Loved this place.
- Program Disadvantages:
Night Hawk system during night float hours, but residents say that it does not impede training so maybe not a disadvantage? Not a level one trauma center.

- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
This is for the University of Rochester. Introduction by program director, followed by faculty interviews. While waiting for interviews residents come in and talk with students.
- Program Advantages:
Large program with 10 residents/year. Due to this programs large catchment area (basically all of Western NY and all of the referrals from the SUNY programs) this program has amazing pathology. Transplant and trauma are strong.
- Program Disadvantages:
Rochester is not for everybody. If married this is a great place to start a life. If single this place may be difficult. It is what you make of it. This is truly a great program that is hampered by its location.
  St Luke's-Roosevelt Hosp Ctr:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Introduction by PD followed by plenty of time to socialize with residents. Interviews are unique in that each interviewer has a predetermined list of questions to ask. Day ends after tour of both hospitals.
- Program Advantages:
This is one of the best locations in NYC and housing is guaranteed. Columbia affiliation allows use of facilities and good research opportunities. Relationship with BI allows increased sites for minifellowship rotations.
- Program Disadvantages:
Cover two hospitals so it is more like 3 residents/year instead of 6. Community program overshadowed by the academic Manhattan programs and Monte.
  Stn Island U Hosp:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Introduction by PD followed by relaxed interviews. Quick tour and then noon conference with excellent deli lunch.
- Program Advantages:
Very strong teaching and good pathology, one of the best of the community programs in NYC and only getting stronger. Residents really happy to be here and seem to be well taken care of. Faculty are very approachable and pro-resident. Great pay.
- Program Disadvantages:
Staten Island bro, though many residents commute from other boroughs. Still a new program that does not have much name recognition outside of NYC area.
  SUNY at Stony Brook:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
ntroduction by PD followed by brief talk by chair. Interviews and tour end the day. Most residents/applicants went to a Happy Hour at a nearby bar.
- Program Advantages:
Good teaching and research opportunities. Nice facilities, awesome resident lounge, and amazing technology. Well-staffed sub-specialty departments. - Friendly residents.
- Program Disadvantages:
Location is weak. Two hours from the city and they really get hurt by that. Size is small for a university program. Makes you wonder about workload. Many residents are from Stony Brook.
  SUNY Ctr at Brooklyn:
- Applied
- Attended interview
- Interview Experience:
Bizarre introduction by PD/Chair which drags on for a long time. Interviews with faculty members and residents. Lunch with PD/Chair who gives advice about applying/interviewing and other random things. Tour ends the day.
- Program Advantages:
Trauma experience and volume are high, so you will come out well-trained (if you survive). Chair well known in IR, and IR experience here is good. - NYC location (most live in Manhattan or Park Slope)
- Program Disadvantages:
Some issues with fluctuating program size. Location is unsafe, Kings County is rough. Some weird issues with the match in the past resulting in some IMG pickups in the scramble. Chair is strange, residents uncomfortable around him.
